Dance teaching artists working within our network have a minimum of 30 hours of comprehensive Parkinson's-focused training in addition to the years of dance education training and experience they bring to their classes. Dance for PD® training consists of an eight-module online course and comprehensive assessment, followed by an 18-hour training workshop that provides teachers with a wealth of knowledge and skills. Dance for PD Certified teaching artists have to earn an additional 100 hours of training as well as a minimum of 50 hours of field experience. Certified teachers must accrue 20 hours of Continuing Professional Development every two years to maintain their certification.
For our fundamental training and certification programs, we maintain a rigorous selection process, and are constantly reviewing our training protocols to increase the levels of knowledge and skill in our trainees.
If you like your Dance for PD® teacher, feel comfortable when in class, and enjoy it, that is perhaps an even more important qualification. Many leaders of Dance for PD® become so interested in teaching that they attend annual workshops in order to receive more training.
